I have a 2004 F250 6.0 Powerstroke. I want to convert my tail lights and running lights to LED types. What do I need to know in advance about this? Are there certain replacement bulbs to use or avoid? Will there be problems with "Light OUT" detection? Any other advice?
I put LED tail lights in my '92. Just went to Pep Boys and bought the LED's with the same style plug as the trucks original bulbs. I had to get a heavy duty 552 flasher to get the turn signals to flash. Other than that, piece of cake .
the best full coverage led lights that i've found are from tmi. www.tmiled.com they're coming out with a new 3157 bulb in a few weeks and have a plug in module for the "light out" problem. it just plugs into your factory timer.
as for the others the problem is with the coverage of the led's. most led bulbs dont have 360 degree coverage and at the best you're going to find 120 degrees right now so some vehicles next to you may not see your signal.
you can also try ebay. theres plenty of them on there but make sure they're refractor bulbs (they have led's underneath or on the side) for better coverage.
your signal lights will blink faster due to the lower voltage. it thinks the bulb is blown and thats how you know one of your bulbs are out with regular bulbs.
