I am new to forum. I have 79 300 6 cylinder f-150.
The truck recently started sputtering upon take off, and their is heavy loping at idle, the choke assembly is very hot (burning), while the carb and engine are running warm. I have checked compression (Good), and the timing appears to be right on. I also did tune up, and shes on second can of see foam, which seems to have cleared up the carb a bit. Any suggestions are very welcome.

If the wire for the choke is hooked to a full 12v source, it can overheat the spring. It should be hooked to the stator terminal on the alternator, it's about a 6v source. Did it actually melt the cap, or was it just getting really hot?
I ended up throwing rebuilt carb on. I found that, the choke tube was broke away from the manifold. So i then discovered that i could drill out the broken piece stuck in the manifold, and then while trying to cut a clean end for the tube, i discovered that the tube has another tube inside of it. So I was able to fit it back into the manifold perfectly. The carb was also very loose at the spot just above the first seal at manifold, which was impossible to get to without taking carb off.
Anyway, my biggest discovery was the new engine I got by thowing new carb on, wowwww, I got my baby back!!!!!!!!!!
