Howdy fellow FORD Men and Women. This is my first post. Got a problem. My F350 Automatic with OD is stuck in park. When you push the brake and try to shift into reverse or any gear, she no go. I have tried looking for schematics on the steering column shifting mechanisim, but cant find a thing. Sometimes I can get it out of park, have to get on my back, put my elbo on the brake, wiggle the key and put pressure on the shifter, and finaly, I get it to shift.
Does anybody have a fix for this? Hell, any suggestions would work for me now. Its stuck in park and in the driveway. Gotta move my horses. HELP!!
a sledgehammer will work good. no seriously that sucks i got a 5 speed though and no recomendations for you. sorry and good luck. have you been offroading? mudd caught on your cables or levers on the tranny.
Check to see if you have any blown fuses. If you do, you may have a short in the electrical wire that goes to the brake line under the hood. Sometimes a drop of oil or whatever gets on the connection and shorts out the wire. Until it is replaced, any new fuse you install will blow and it will lock up your column shifter. It's not very expensive to have the wire replaced.
My son's 1997 F150 did the same thing. Had to replace the SW asy-spd contr F3TZ 9F924 BB. Only cost $25 plus labor. The tech said it probably got some brake fluid on it at the last oil change when someone was topping off the brake fluid. Will short it out every time.

This will sound wierd, but follow me here. Do your brake lights work all of the time? In a lot of Fords when your brake light switch goes out it won't shift out of park. It's a stupid safety feature. You must have your foot on the brake pedal to shift out of park, if the brake light switch is out then it won't let you shift. That's where I'd look first.
Also most cars and trucks have this feature built in for safety: Turn the key until the steering wheel unlocks, maybe a titch more but not enough to power up the truck. Then you should be able to shift it out of park and into neutral where you can start it up and move the truck.
Dwikordead ,BLuesbandit, Kabcpapc and 1997F-350, thanks for the quick responces and suggestions. I forgot to mention it was a 1995 truck. I had a problem with the ABS light giving a code 11, found a blown fuse that was controlling the ABS, fuse number 13 or was it 15. Never the less, i replaced the fuse, after downloading 50 pages of braking instructions from the AutoZone site. Checked the other conditions suggested and WALA, a 25 cent fuse.
I will try your suggestions and see if I can now get it out of gear, didn't even try to shift. Could be the break switch, ya think?
It was the brake switch for me just like Bluesbandit said. It happen off and and on over a couple of months. During that sametime I would sometimes have my ABS idiot light come on for reason ( I would be just driving not even touching my brake pedal and the light would come on). Sometimes the light would stay on until I would pull the ABS fuse other times it would just go away on its own. Not a good feeling either way and diffently not good when you have your truck running and get out to check on your trailer load and then get back in and you can't get the darn thing out of PARK @#%$#%!!! Replaced that switched and ALL is better. There is suppose to be a way to be away to shift your lever from park to netural. Like Kwik mentioned but I don't remember the exact way. I will try to see what it is when I go out to my truck. Anyway once you get it shifted to netural then you can turn on your key and start it up. I had to figure that out on my own the day I was suppose to take it to my diesel mechanic to figure out my ABS problem. It was nice to be able to figure out two problems on my own. Good luck.
ggaston, checked out my truck. All you have to do is put your key and turn it only one position. You can then move you shifter to neutral and then you should be able to start your truck. It is sometimes easier to find the right position by turning it to all the way to where you hear and see your idiot lights and buzzer. Then just turn it back on click. This will be the position just prior to where you can pull the key out. Hope this helps.

Thanks a bundle for your help.
hello friends
did u get it fixed. my other truck did the same thing. it was the brake switch on the brake pedal, it was a wire broke. Do u have any brake lights when u stepon them. If u have a brake trailer controler, u can manually move the lever and u then can shift into gear, but u will not have any brake lights. unless u reach down and move the control lever with your hand.
later
