I am kicking around ideas about how I can tow a small tent trailer and bring along a dirtbike on the same trip. The inside of the van will be full of family so the Bike must be mounted outside somewhere. Mounting it on the trailer roof or somewhere on the trailer will not work or be safe.
I was thinking of bolting some type of carrier to the front of the Van. The bike is roughly 250 lbs with the carrier probably around 50lbs.
Has anyone attempted this crazy idea? I don't think the extra weight would be too big a deal. The Air Flow through the radiators will be an issue.
The van is a 92' AWD 4.0 with newly rebuilt suspension, Cooling system, and transmission. The trailer is a 1000lb pop-up with 100lbs on the hitch.
The front bumper has 2 Large bolts that do nothing but hold the plastic on. You can use these with a bike holder. They screw right into the solid frame.
how bout mounting a rack to the rear bumper of the trailer?
but otherwise the front of the aero would be best but what about airflow? hmmm. i dont think that pulling a 1000 pound trailer is going to make the 4.0 work too hard! i pull a 3200 pound trailer with mine and it does not get hot.
id make sure your headlights and turn signals are visable and that the cops are ok with things before id worry about the aero being able to handle it. the aero is going to be fine. the cops can be sorta cranky though!
