Anyone seen this?

I saw an Aerostar the other day and it had a split rear door like you would find on a full size van or Chevy Suburban. Was this an option? I have never seen one like this before but thought it was really cool. I don't know what year this would have been but it was a shorty and had all red tail lights which I think was on the older ones. Any comments?

Yeah, they come on the cargo Aerostars. The split rear door was an option on those vans.. I think that the all red rear lights signify a '97 model but am not sure.

Your correct, the all red lights are '97 only.
Here's a pic of my '97...

Funny that they would change the tail lights for the '97's and then drop the Aero, seems like if they were going to drop the line they would have just stayed with what they had.

Maybe it was a last minute idea to stop production.
Bad idea by the way.

My Aero has the split back door. And yes, it is a former cargo ext made in april -89 and sold in -90. Now it has back seats from Mitsubishi, I think... and they used to be front seats so they are all recliners with headrests that resembles the Aero front seats. Kinda odd.

i bet one could weld on the hinges to the rear section and make your own side swing doors like the factory.

we live in oregon, and it rains alot. so the rear hatch is a nice shelter for staying dry while loading groceries.

the split rear door also takes a big chunk out of the rear visibility as well.
