cam installation

I had a shop install a cam in my 84 2.0L ranger about 15,000 miles ago. Now I have to replace the cam again, but the shop that installed it before striped the heads on the retaining plate screws. I have to get this fixed soon so i can sell it, does any one know how i can get the screws out with out taking the cyl. head off.

I know you must be upset,not only cause the head is worn but also cause it's waaaay in the back of the head!I'm sure you have tried a #3 phillips socket bit already? Your next move will be a chisel and hammer. Select a cold chisel with a narrow blade are a cape chisel{diamond point}.Place the chisel near the outer diameter of the screw at a steep angle to make the corner dig into the screw when you hammer it in a direction that will make the screw back up.Once you get it to move about 1/8 of a turn,they should be finger loose after that. You may want to remove the hood for easy positioning of your body and hammer as this will keep you from getting aggrevated.
