I'm at a loss here. Can't decide where to put lights and the position kinda determines the type of light. I was actually thinking of a light bar for the top of the cab but seems like overkill. I was going to do some type of front guard, but all the ones I have found you must remove the tow hooks from the front to install it and I dont want to do that. I was also thinking about bumper, or behind grill, but not sure how it would look. Anyone with pictures or experience with this stuff, I've got '97 f150 4x4 reg cab.
This is my '01 with a WAAG grill gaurd. I have two 100 watt KC's on it. I did not have to lose my tow hooks and it flows with the grill real good. This is from my gallery. https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...d=6853&width=0
Thanks for the help guys, I did a little research on the "light wing license frame" and it says its not applicable for f150's with a "sculpted center bumper". I think this means me. I not really sure what they mean by "sculpted" but i think it means how the bumper indents in the middle, check my gallery to see what I mean, because I've seen later f-150's and their bumper is a constant curve. If anyone knows if this is correct or not please let me know.
AzPete- thanks thats what I've been lookin for can you give me any specs on it like price and where you bought, thanks.
I simply bolted my Hella 550 driving lights to the top of the front bumper. It's large enough to keep the glass behind the front edge. Also wired the feed direct off the alternator thus getting full raw voltage to the 100 watt bulbs. Nice and bright!
Two things, do you have a bumper with a contant curve or a "sculpted" on where in the middle the bumper curves in towards the grill and then curves back out, just to make sure its deep enough. And how involved is the wiring. I dont do much electrical work on the truck, I figure the instructions should be enough but just checking.
Sculpted. Decide on where you're putting your switch. My system is tied into the highbeam. With the switch on, the drivers will come on with the highbeams. I ran a wire from the highbeam wire located right behind the left headlight plug to the switch. From the other side of the switch, run a wire to a relay. I used a heavy duty starter type of relay. I've burned out too many regular ones so I went big. I located it on the rad support near the battery. Attach the wire to the small stud. I then ran a heavier wire from the alternator output stud to a 30a circuit breaker mounted to the wheel well cover. On the other side of the breaker run a wire to one of the large studs of the relay. The feed wires for the lights are attached to the remaining large stud. I then ran a wire from the ground side of each light to a convenient screw located in the middle of the radiator support.
Send me your email addy and I'll send some pictures of the installation.
