2 electrical issues...help!

1990 bronco II

2 unrelated issues (i think)....

first, turn signals don't work. emergency flashers work just fine. i searched the archives here and it sounds like a dead multi-function switch. does that sound right? if so, where is it and how do i replace it?

secondly, installed a new cd player and now speakers don't work. there seems to be some cheapo inline 'amplifier' that was hooked up to the previous stereo. don't know if that is the problem. when i wire a speaker directly to the head unit, it works fine. but when i hook up all wires through the existing bronco wiring, the speakers don't work!! i checked all fuses in the box under the dash and under the hood. is there another fuse associated with the stero i should check? if not, i'll have to just rewire all of the speakers directly to the head unit. i'm really hoping i won't have to do that!!

any help would be greatley appreciated. thank you.

The multi funtion switch should be the turn signal switch/dimmer switch. Mine is easy to get to but I have a 1987. On mine you just take off the plastic that covers the steering column. Some BII's had a premium sound system that include a factory amp. When you installed the new radio it may not have a prevision to power the amp. I assume that everything worked before installing the new cd player.

i took off the lower cover to the steering column. there seems to be two grey connectors. one large and one small.

where do you think the amp would be? the stero which worked before was an aftermarket unit, not factory. it would be strange if that unit worked with the amp and this new one won't.

i just bought an 86 B2 on the 16th, i put in a new stereo and found a small amp in the top of the dash right above it (it had power but speakers didnt run through it). amp wasnt big enough for me so i disconnected it but i left it in the dash, i ran wires and mounted a new amp in the back. now, an amp will usually have 3power inputs, negitive, positive, and a positive off the stereo(to turn it on). i was to lazy to wire mine into the stereo so i used a little jumper wire on the amp across the two positive inputs and wired it in2 a toggle switch on the dash. (front speaker wires on stereo go to pre-existing speakers in dash and beside rear seats. rear speaker wires go to the amp)
heres the part i dont really get but ohwell.... if the amp is turned on before the stereo, you get no sound on either the amp or the default speakers. if the stereo is turned on and you dont turn on the amp, you get no sound on the default speakers.
in order to get sound, you have to turn on the stereo, then turn on the amp. everything should work fine. if you dont want the amp on, just the default speakers, you have to turn the stereo on, then turn the amp on wait a seconed and turn the amp back off.
if anyone can explain to me why the stereos and amps are all so gay, id be happy cuz it makes no sence to me.

i think i found my amp in a side panel by the driver's side rear speaker. i'll have to see if there's a fuse on there that may be blown. maybe that explains why my speakers aren't working even though all of the old wiring is the same (just plugged in a new head unit). i have heard the wiring through the factory amp can cause problems when modifiying the stereo.

You didn't find the amp you found the Rear ABS unit. The amp is under a metal plate on the pass. side of the dash just to the left of the speaker.

i think it's only there if you have the premium sound system.

and i checked on the price of a multfunction switch at auto zone......$114.00!!!!! geez, that's a lot of money, especially since i'm not even 100% sure that's the problem.
