1998 Expy EB 5.4L 4x4, 92k miles 3.73rear
serviced trany with flush 1000k ago,
thought I had a shimmy prior to service,
now I had a shutter thriugh power band most evident at higher gear with od on or off.
New Edelbrock at 50K, new Michelin at 55K, 265 70 17 cross terrain with rotation at every 5k religious, 6/32 left on tread with no abnormal wear.
Any thoughts, could the 40k old rubber be causing bounce / shimmy in front / rear end?
Could the shocks be dead so soon.
No steering tracking problems.
No alignment problems.
Or would the elusive torque converter failure reproduce these symptoms?
Thanks,
Happy Holidays!
Jon
If you think it is in the running gear, and you have a good balanced spare, try switching it with every wheel to eliminate tires. It could be a shock, tire out of round, drive shaft u-joint, wheel bearing going bad etc. In the drive train there are many possibilities including the converter, or bad wires or plugs. Take one thing at a time to try and eliminate it. Go to the dealer to hook up to the computer. That would eliminate certain things. Good luck with it.
