I have a 97 EB 4x4 with the 5.4. I changed to a 315-70-17 tire and want to get the speedo recalibrated. All the computer tuners that are offered only show that they can do this on 99's and above with electronic odometers. Does anyone know how I can get this taken care of on my 97?
Ford makes different "colored" gears that are just inside the housing where the speedo cable enters the tranny. Call your local ford dealership's parts departments and find out which gear you need. You'll need to be able to tell them how much taller the new tires are than stockers.

Tell ya what, I have the same tire on my Xpy. 4X4 EB w/ a 3" lift (97). I was told to disconnect my NEG. side of the battery for about 30 sec. This would signal the computor to recalibrate things like "trans. shift times", and speed, and other things as well.
The state patrol has a portable radar display they set up at various locations around where I live. I have compaired my speed with there digital radar desplay...(after the neg. batt. thing.) I was dead on the money 35mph/ I went back and tried it again at 47... bullseye again.
After I took the NEG side off for 30sec. I drove down the express way for around 5 mi. then into town, start and stop, then home. Checked it out the next day. All I can say is " I'm happy w/ the results"

While on that subject of the battery, does anyone know what all is "reset" by disconnecting the negative side of the battery? I've heard you are supposed to do this every so often.
What all does is it do??
Thanks and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Everything that is powered from the battery.
If you love the radio presets, just pull the fuse to the computer in the underhood relay box. (Brilliant idea = nobody thinks of that!) Isolate one circuit and avoid potential arcing (destroys a computer) and massive monetary outlay in the process.
All factory settings are set back into action. If you are hard on the pedal, the tranny will learn that....it forgets that habit when the ECM fuse is pulled.
