i'm buying a truck for landscape deliveries and pulling a 10k lb loader. Need advice on a f 650 vs a 550 automatic. I will haul trailer about 30 times per year. I'm concerned the 650 may be too bulky a truck for Metro area. I'm also concerned that the axle ratio on 650 may not be enough I think it is 5:11. I'm also going to use truck for snow plowing a large parking lot.
any feedback would be appreaciated.
I've never driven a F-650, but we have a F-550 and a few F-450s....all ours are PSDs with 4.88 gears. I've towed 10-12k before with the F-550 without any problems. What's kept us away from the F-650 is the size of the truck.
How much weight do you need to be able to put on the truck itself?
The size of the plow on a F-650 would be a benefit for a large parking lot though.....also if you salt the amount of salt you could fit in the box.

The 650 is a much heavier larger truck, but they drive pretty well in town for their size. Test drive both using the same route, make believe you are trying to plow with them in a lot, drive into tight areas you might normally encounter - looking at clearance, turning radius, and visibility. Ask yourself what you want to live with daily . . . sometimes the extra size gets tiresome, sometimes you love the capability.
