Iv'e got the stock 6 disc in-dash Audiophile setup in my '05 Explorer. I've previously had factory XM in my saturn, and hard-wired XM in my Z06. (Fm tuners, yuck...lol). While I've always been an XM fan, I don't realy want to go to the hassle of hard-wiring XM. So, I plan on just going w/Sirius since its already equipped. Here's the question...
What all do I need? I can't find ANYTHING online. Everything I find ends up going right back to the stealership. I do not really want to pay them to do the work. I'm assuimg all I need is an antenna? Unless SAT-Ready is BS and I still need to buy a tuner to stash under the dash as well? Anyone have any part numbers and where I can order them from? (Trying to avoid paying dealer prices, which I'm sure are a ripoff).
SAT ready means it can take a tuner, Smae as the HDTV BS. What they really mean is SAT ready not "Built-In" SAT, Same as the HDTV ready means "Go Pay $300.00 for a tuner too"

LOL. I figured. Thanks for clarifying it for me though.
Anyone know what brand the Audiophile system is? I couldn't locate a tag/embossment anywhere on the face like in most vehicles. (unless Audiophile is some cheap import that they put in and that actually IS the brand name...lol).
Need to find what brand it is so I can find a tuner for it, (while avoiding the stealership).

Just installed my Sirius tuner this past weekend on my '04 SAT ready HU. It only took about an hour or so (excluding interuptions). Anyways, depending on if you have the DVD system or not - total cost to add the tuner/antenna/harness yourself is $225-249 (through Radios and More). This is the same Visteon OEM unit that your 'stealership' would install for $500+.
Basically, going this route enables you to maintain all the functions of the steering controls, etc without having to rebuild your system and add additional adapters/harnesses/etc.

Very cool. I know the dealership had quoted me something in the high $400's for kit and install. No reason to pay them for that in my opinion. I'm assuming it's all plug n play connectors on the harness and is just a matter of getting behind the dash and running the harness and sat cable as well?
How hard was the install overall? Thnaks again for the site links. Always nice to save a few hundred when possible.
The overall install was extremely simple - all the harnesses are PNP. Probably the most "difficult" thing to do was remove the trim around the radio head unit. It wasn't hard at all; it's just that you don't want to scratch anything since you'll see it everytime.
I'd just tried out an accessory aux port which stated it worked with up to a 2004 Ford stereo assuming it would work on my 2005 6 disc stock head.
Apparently the 2004 and previous heads are different than the 2005's. the 2005 is made by Pioneer and has a 10 pin AUX port which I've yet to find anything that will connect to it.
CES is next week. Hopefully some nice new stuff will come out by then.
Hey creech, what aux input converter did you try? I have been desperately trying to find one for my 2004 6-disc stock HU. I tried one from PAC, but it did not work....

Would assume when it says "up to 2004" they're talking about the 2004 Heritage trucks, not the new body style. Best we can tell, no one has an aux harness yet for the 6-cd changer stereos in the new body styles.
Actually they changed it mid 03. I got a 03 (built in Aug) and there is no harness yet. Blitzsafe says they have one developed (upto and including '05's) and should be out Feb.
The unit i tried was the Peripheral (made by Stinger) iPod2Car. It can be used with an iPod or as an Aux in. The documentation stated it worked up to 2004.
So is there a way to add an aux input to an 03 EB Expedition system with DVD? I was told a few months ago that this wasn't possible. I really want to plug an MP3 player into my system directly, without using FM radio.
Do I have to replace the head unit? It's amazing how difficult Ford makes it to improve the system without replacing everything.
None yet that I can tell gregeas....I'm looking for the same thing for my 04 Excursion w/DVD. I have had no luck. Though I have heard that Blitzsafe and P.I.E. are both looking into it...and I can't remember if PAC-audio was as well. Hopefully we'll have something by February. What is the model number of your H.U.? And what is the build date of your expy? The earlier-year models may work....
