I am in th emiddle of a transmission fluid change. When I got the pan off there was a plastic piece floating in the fluid. It is 1/2 circle with a rubber gasket on it and a 1/12 in long shaft on the other end.
Anyone know where this thing goes???? I cannot find a home for it anywhere.
Well I put it all back together and seems to run fine. Shifts nice and smooth now. I ended up putting Valvoline sythetic blend into it.
I also ran up to the Ford dealer and caught a service tech as he was about to leave. He said it came from blah blah blah and to just throw it out. I said OK knowing I am still under warranty and I will be back if it was something important. ( I will just play dumb).
if its the plug i'm thinking of its the shipping plug of the hole the filler tube gets put into they just push the tube in shoving the plug into the pan throw it out.your fine

Thanks. Scared the poop out of me. Seeing this piece floating in fluid and not seeing a place to put it back and it being a long holiday weekend. I thought I was FUBAR. It did not look like something important, it was not all that sturdy and I did not see any way it would very useful. Your explanation seems to make sense along with Calviroman. That looked like the only place it would fit except the dipstick was in the way.
They should put a warning label on the cover or something.
