Divorced transfer case

How does these transfercases mount to the transmission or does it not this is why it is called divorced.

Divorced

Divorced means it does not bolt to the trans. There is a driveshaft between the Trans and the Transfercase. The Transfercase is mounted seperatly further behind the trans. You will usually see this on 4x4 semi trucks.

these also came quite a few lighter duty trucks - like my 1972 f260 4x4 hiboy (360/4 speed/2 speed divorced transfer case/posi rear dana 60/dana 44 front)

Nearly every Ford 4x4 up to 78 had a divorced transfer case.

F250s up to Mar. 1st 1977 had divorced transfer case, 771/2-79 F250 lowboys had trans-transfer together. 1966 and later 1/2 tons trans-transfer case also together.
