A buddy of mine has a 2005 F-250 PS that has been back to the dealer several times to have them fix a Thump noise when the A/C compressor kicks in. It's very pronounced, you can feel the floorbord vibrate as well as the audiable "bump/thump" sound. The dealer is "waiting to here back from Ford". They say they are getting similar complanits from 2005 Mustang owners .... Anyone out there have a similar problem? Were you able to get it Fixed? ... The truck has only about 1,100 miles on it ............. I have a 2005 F-250 PS that, at least to date, does not have this problem ... Thanks folks.
I to am having the "Thump"...I notice it when I'm idling or driving very slow...like through a parking lot...I haven't noticed if it was from the A/C or not...but it is very pronounced and vibrates the floor board...I have a 2005 6.0 PSD and thought it was the engine...Any ideas...

I have a 2004 SD. The heater AC thumps all the time. Same story from dealer. Waiting
to hear from Ford. I told them this not acceptable. We will see what happen.
It's not that big of a deal- your truck loses vacuum pressure when parked for a few hours, the blend door relaxes, you start your truck with the AC or defrost on and the vacuum returns moving the door again. You can avoid this by setting your AC controls to off when starting your truck. All years do this.
Yeh I've got the same thump. It's fairly loud and happens shortly after starting it. Usualy I have the defroster on when it does this. My service manager couldn't seem to duplicate it and had know idea what it was, not sure if he was playing dumb or not.
If somebody knows an actual fix let us know. (other than shutting off the ac/heater)
Hi Tlattin,
My truck does it all the time in defrost or mixs mode whenever the AC cycles.
Sounds like your deal maybe the belt, compressor clutch or the compressor itself. I would definately have your service guy look at it since it should be easy to dulicate the sound, since every cycle.
SLE- your service manager wouldn't be able to duplicate the sound without bleeding off the vacuum storage- have him do that, then start the engine with the AC or defrost switch on before cranking. If he has a cure let us know, would ya?
The sound is coming from your condessor. It is a common problem. There is no fix. I had it troubleshot on my 2000 F-350. I just bought my 2005 F-350 same thing. It is just the nature of the beast. Nothing to worry about. Just enjoy the truck and imagine what is was like without air. LOL

Welcome to the only family Ford Truck site, on the net. If you have a minute check out the Guidelines, it will help you to navigate through FTE.

It is not the door. We put a rag in so it would not close all the way and still thump. If you open your hood you will hear it in the lines not under the dash.
