I've installed a single in/dual out exhaust system, an AEM Brute Force intake, and loaded the Diablosport performance tune from my Predator (with a full tank of 93 octane) on my '99 F-150 5.4L.
Me and my buddy took it out and ran some 0-60 and quarter mile times, and I saw almost no gains from 0-60. I also think I have a crappy quarter mile time.
0-60-------1/4mi (both with above mentioned upgrades)
10.69s-----18.92s
10.59s-----18.85s
10.37s-----(got mad and went home)
10.75s
These numbers could be a little off. My buddy had a stopwatch on his cellphone. Are these good times, or did I just waste $800? If I did waste money, where did I go wrong?
I'm assuming you reset the computer? I would think that you should see better performance with your mods than what you are getting. If not, try resetting the computer, it could make a difference.
You reset the computer by taking off the negative battery cable off the battery and let the truck sit for 15 to 30 minutes. This resets the computer to default settings. After putting back on the negative cable, start driving it around. The computer will adjust itself over time to the new settings (your new mods/configuration). It should then make the adjustments to your new chip and exhaust.
Until you get rid of the cork in front of the mufflers, that probaly the best it's gonna get.Stock manifolds-junk, y-pipe-junk,single exhaust-junk.Dont take this personal.
If you really want to go fast, you need either a Lightning or a Cobra Mustang!!!! These are heavy trucks with small cubic inches so N.O.S., a supercharger or a lighter vehicle is what you need.
Have you considered getting an electronic timer/dyno? There are several on the market. I like the G-Tech Pro, which I think is around $300. I know that sounds like a lot, but believe me, it will let you know whether your mods are actually doing anything. It's not quite as accurate as going to the drag strip or using a chassis dyno, but it is pretty darned close in my opinion. It'll show you horsepower at the rear wheels, torque, and show performance curves for both throughout the rpm band, it shows 0-60, 60ft, 1/8, 1/4 mile and other times, store the data, let you download it to a laptop, etc. Very useful.
If you really want to see what your mods do (or if they are snake oil) one of these gizmos is a good investment before you spend a lot of dough.
what times are you cutting at the light on take off?? thats also called your reaction time. a .500 light is considered perfect. if you have a bad reaction time that will affect your 1/4 mile times. also i strongly recomend the diablo predator tuner if you are going to do anything as far as computer tuning and as you said headers. then maybe a set of e fans and you might want to check into a mass air flow sensor and a larger therottle body.. it mainly just depends on how fast you want to get it to go and how much money you want to stick in it. but like i said above your 1/4 mile times are affected by your reaction time.
my 2002 ex cab 4.6L has duel exhaust with no muffler, AEM breut force intake and the diablo predator tuner. i have not go to run the truck since adding these things but i plan on doing so maybe this spring.
Reaction times have no effect on 1/4 mile et's since the timer does not start till you trip the beams at the starting line. That is why a quicker et sometimes loses. It effects who gets there first, but not the time.
