miss at driving speed

I have a 1987 ford ranger 4x4 , with a 2.3L 5 speed . The problem is it has a off-on miss , or lack of power at acceleration , or under a pull.Sometimes it runs alright ,then it just falls on its face. Bought this truck from my brother, he has replaced a lot of sencers, I dont know witch ones. When truck runs good it runs good but not for far.Want to keep the 2.3L in truck. Have a 87 with a 302 in it already.

Two things that spring to mind are a air filter and fuel filter. The best thing to do is to think simple sensors cost more money than these two.

think air, spark, or fuel....does it have fresh tune up parts? one possible is stray spark from a plug wire....you can test this by getting a spray bottle and spraying a fine mist over your wires while it's running...look for any arcing.
