well, were in for a white christmass here in ohio, i live near the middle of the state and we have blizzard warnings out, level 3 snow emergenceys (nothing allowed on roads but plows or emergency vehicles) and some places have power outages. i work for a plant that makes parts for honda cars, today was supposed to be the last day of work before christmass shutdown, yesterday they cancelled 2nd/3rd shift and cancelled work for today. i convinced the wife to go out last night and get anything we needed at all, dont know how long we might be unable to travel. she is glad we went now. made her a beleiver in 4wd too. my ranger with barely legal a/t tires is so much better in this snow than the taurus with new tires. had 4 inches yesterday when i left work at 3, had 6 by the time we got home at 7 last night. dont know what we have now, its been blowing and from 2-6 am it was freezing rain. as long as i dont lose power i'll be o.k. hope it all clears up by tommarow. 'yall have a good holiday. stay safe. Dave.
12.5 inches fell here over the last 2 days, that's according to the morrow county ohio garage. It's crazy. I am snowed in, and haven't been able to get out to go to work for two days. This sucks.
dont know what our total is. im in the next county over from morrow county though. (marion) right now the most hazzerdous travel is in the trailer park itself. i needed 4low to get to the mailboxes and back. took me 2 hrs to dig out my parking spots and patio. the local fire dept came around and offered to check out the furnace vents, i know of one person near me whose furnace wouldnt keep the pilot light lit. im glad my work closed down, east-west roads seem to be the worst with drifting and thats mostly what i travel.
whats mildly funny is dad decided to replace the old '77 F250 farm truck. 2 or 3 wks ago we brought home a '94 F250 4x4 351/E4OD that needed a completle rebuild on the front dana 50 and evry u-joint replaced from the transfercase forward. got it done, went to see about fitting up the plow frame from the '77 and found out there is a difference of 5 inches from a '77 to a '94 frame. (the '94 is wider) i think we should just make the '77 a plow-only truck and save the nicer ford for highway service uses and pulling wagons and such, the '77 has a bigger motor (400) lower gearing (4.10 vs the 3.55 in the '94) and full-time 4wd + the C-6 auto. while im sure the '94 would be capable, if both trucks were available for usage and ready for snow id grab the '77. however i dont know if the old truck can go much farther. but now we have a '77 with a plow kit but no rear spring shackles and a oil pan with pinholes and a '94 without a plow. i wish i could find him one on e-bay real quick as a last minute christmass surprize. south of us they got a major ice storm, a lot of coulmbus has ice on trees.
wow i didnt think the power outage was quite that widespread. a lot of talk on the scanner right now about carbon monoxide poisoning, must be some furnace exhusts blocked by all the snow. my furnace has ran all day. gonna get colder from what the t.v. has said. its down to 10 now.
In Southwestern Ontario (Sarnia, specifically) we got at least a foot of snow. Just got finished plowing for 15 hours. Going to bed for 4 hours then back out to finish of and do final clean-up. Woohoo! The Ford loved it!
Been watching the weather channel and I see all that you guys are up against. I know how hard it is to get around and how dangerous the roads can be.
Here in Alaska we are facing our own extreme driving conditions...freezing rain mixed with just enough snow to cover up the fun stuff! They have shut down the main north/south highway (The Parks Highway) running between Fairbanks and Anchorage just south of me. Hopefully that's as far as it goes - I DON'T want to be stuck at work for Christmas!
Been a fun day. Instead of being in the office today....spent the day pulling our trucks out of snow drifts and unplowed roads.
If I was smart, I'd be out there making money pullin people out. Instead, I pulled several out to be nice and helpful.
Hailstone, did you get the 5 inches of ice we did? Not only have we got over 12 inches of snow (over 24 in bellefontaine), but there is currently 4 inches of ice on all the roadways outside of the town I live in. State highways included.
You just have to make the best of the situation. I lived in Sandusky, Ohio 2000-2001, It is beautiful there in the Winter and actually not that bad. Anyone that hates winter where they live should visit Kansas. The 30 mph winds out on the prairie, as well as the lack of alot of trees seem to throw a real curve on winter.
