my 1977 f-150 with a351modified engine is running hot when i get stuck in traffic. i put in a new radiator water pump and thermostat. it runs fine if it keeps moving any ideas?

Typical missing fan shroud or bad fan clutch. When you are going slow or stopped the fan pulls the air thru the radiator. When you are moving fast the movement of the vehicle forces air thru the radiator.
Something made you replace all that stuff. I'm going to assume that the engine overheated at least once to get your attention. If you have an electrical temp gauge, replace the sender. When these things get real hot it screws them up inside and they read hotter than normal after that. If it's a capillary tube gauge, buy a cheap replacement and take a reading with it to see if there is a difference. They will get damaged also when heated beyond their normal range. Good luck.
