Power Steering Conversion

I'v got a 76 f100 2wd with no power steering, and I would like to put power steering in it but don't know what parts I will need or the cost of the project. Any ideas?

Steering box, column for p/s, and pump/brackets.As far as cost,it's gonna vary depending who has it and they want for it and where you live.Junkyards in my area would run $150-250.May also need to change pulley's and bracket could be difficult finding depending what engine you have, but the stuff is out there.

What about the drag link and other suspension stuff? Don't you need that too?

ps info

Just did this to my '72 4 wh. $170 for rebuilt steering box, $52 for rebuilt pump, brackets from junkyard, 2 new hoses for pump to box, 1 belt, 1 inline filter $14. Then some cutting a welding on frame to accomodate box, shorten steering shaft, shorten drag link. I bought this kit from outfit in Iowa, but ended up replacing box and pump as I think he sent me junk parts. I still have complete instructions on this refit. E-mail me from my gallery.

Shouldn't need to replace this. It's already there, connected to the steering box. The box itself just isn't assisted.

more to do

Thanks for the comp, still have much to do. You know how it is, time and money is the usual holdup. Since I got the power steering on, I decided that was the BEST thing I have ever done to the truck. Ok warming up a new 390 was right up there! Once my buddy and I did the steering, I realized how easy it was to do, and kicked myself for not doing it 10 yrs ago.

I just put a complete front suspension from a 78' under my 65' , also power steering, I don't know if it's the same applies for later model trucks but with the FE motors you have to either get a new left side engine perch or modify your old one. You search the 61-66 forum for more info.

Depending on engine, you may have to get a shorter oil filter as well. My 69 required one, as the FE block wouldn't clear the pump with the stock filter. The PH8H(not sure of other brands) Crossed over to a PH32A for a "shorty" filter. Same gasket, will clear easy enough. Never had a problem with it's filtration, as I'd also rebuilt the engine, and ran semi-synthetic oil in it, and changed it religiously.

I wouldnt have had to move oil filter location, but I did it anyhow. PH8 would have been fine with power box, box is up front by radiator. So now my filter is vertical position, mounted inside of frame in same area. Just used a 90 degree bracket to mount relocation kit.
