If you have read much on this site, you allready know you need gauges first. As far as programers go I have the Predator and enjoy it plenty. If I were to do it again, I would go with the flip chip. You can change your settings on the fly and get them programed at your specs.
Another vote for the Predator! But yeah get gauges, intake and exhaust first. Very very important. And what do you mean mileage sucks? I get almost twice the mileage my wife gets in her Toyota.
The kind of programmer depends on what you want to do with your truck. If you are looking for raw power so you can show off, then you will probably want Edge, Superchip or Predator or some other chip that will run the risk of high EGT.
If you just want more pulling power for towing and you aren't a gearhead, then the Hypertech Programmer III is a good choice and the price is considerabley less than the above mentioned.
I have predator programmer and it kicks butt. only thing is I could just try it out cause i dont have gauges. But really i could smoke the tires on 60 hp setting. I love it just got to get some guages.
Both the Superchips and Diablo have lower power settings if you want to step down the lower level that Hypertech offers, or you can step it up for more power and get EGT gauges. For the same money, you get more (and less if you so desire!).
Just wondering why with Hypertech the engine would need replaced soon? Would like some more info please. We have one in the '01 F250 PSD and we are getting an 01 PSD Excursion this Wed. from TX, and had planned on putting one in that one as well..
Thanks for the info...
Been running the Hypertech power programmer III ever sense the warrantee ran out!! Mobey has 189,950 miles on him now!! Never had a problem with it and it's staying on mobey!! $381.00 2 years ago!! Best money I've ever spent for a mod!!

Thanks, I understood that in the first part, Everyone has an opinion, I am just wondering why you think it is so bad? What supports why a new engine would have to be bought? Anyone else? Just was wondering, we have had it in our truck for 4 yrs now from 1200 miles til now at 56K, so far no problems except the CPS, at about 55K.
Another vote for predator only had it and truck since nov but seemes like a good product tthe big reason I went with it if I break stuff B-4 warranty is out I can back out the program and no footprint left in the computer.....so they say....I hope so!!!
Bill.

Basically to put it short and simple. The makers of Hypertech are a bunch of computer geeks with no real understanding of how an internal combustion engine works. They base all their programs on theoretical #'s. I personally have no faith in that but I have faith in those that have gone out and used their equipment pushed it to the limits and to failure to find what works and what doesn't. Hypertech is JUNK. I also have three different friends who have run the Hypertech and had to purchase new trucks or motors. I along with other friends have had no such problems with the Predator or SCMT, I honestly cannot speak much about the Edge because I have never owned one but 2 of my friends have and like it. So IMO I would not touch a Hypertech ever!
