When I got my truck, it was doing the same thing, same side, same valves. Everything was fine until I idled down to go around a corner and the 3rd valve decided it wanted to be somewhere else. It let go and, luckily, did not do any damage. But, if you are motoring along pretty good and it lets go, it will do major damage. Probably will destroy the head and possibly the block. There just is not room in there for a loose valve.
well i think i got the greasiest ive ever been but 4 hours later the heads are off not a bad job but not sumtin id want to do every day i have 4 exhaust valve guides thar are bad that i can tell on the pass side the first 3 cylinders the 3rd bein the worst and one on the drivers side i can tell they are bad because i can grab the top of the valve and move it side to siide on the 3rd one i can see the valve openin whenm i move it i suspect that is my prob the cylinders look perty good just a lil ridge on top doesnt look bad for 220k miles i also had 4 glo plugs that were dead and my injectors are origionel just the ip has been changed so im gonna get new injectors glos felpro gaskets and i found a guy who has a few 7.3 heads one set was jus gone through at the machine shop they look good and clean all the valves are tight he wants $200. for them is that a fair price anything i should look for on in the cylinders or heads b4 i put it back together also what are the torque specs and sequences for heads and intake thanks
chris
Measure the heads all around as I stated above especially the deck height to valve cover surface. If they are less than the minimum anywhere leave them alone...........
well i got it back together today seems to be running fine no more missing job total was around $450 for two heads, head intake ex. manifold valve cover gaskets about 15 hours of my time not to bad the job was a lot easier than i figured the cylinder walls looked goor for 220k miles so i figure itll be good for a while now if i can only figure that e4od out ill be a happy man also how long are injectors good for i talked to the orig owner and he said he had only rep[laced 1 or 2 injectors and the ip so 6 or 7 injectors havre 220k on them but it runs good i think it should have a lil more power but it does run ok would new injectors give me more power??
thanks
