I recently bought a pre-owned (used) 2002, Ford, ranger, XLT, 4X4, with the 4.0L(62,000 miles). I have not had any problems with my truck, but I would like to know if anyone has had any out of the 2001-03 that I may need to look for. The biggest problem that I have experinced is that the driver side window seems like it is always off track. Other than that I love it!, Please let me know, thanks!

Congratulations on the truck
my 02 Edge power windows seem to "skip" when rolling down, i took it to the dealer, they resolved it temporarily, but it always seems to go back to skipping/jumping when rolling down.
I have an '02 Ranger XLT 4x4 4.0L too, I only got 43100 on it though. so far I have had the air bag light come on, code 46 "drivers side pretensor circuit high or low." Also my drivers side power window doesn't work at all, dealers supposed to fix it next tuesday... although it could just be frozen shut.
sounds like the window thing is a common problem, my airbag light has also come on a couple of times... as well, eveytime I plug the pigtale of my boat up, my check engine light comes on... any idea why?... by the way, it is the Auto w/OD tranny
If you BFgoodwrech Long Trail's, it is the way that they are made. I talked with a guy at the place I bought my tires, (I did purchase a new set) and he said that everyone who buys them says they have the same problem with them. The way I see it is I am driving a truck, and other than the noise, I like everything else about them, so I can live with it. Otherwise you start to sacrifice the traction for road comfort, and I need to be able to go off road as well as on road.
I would suggest the BFgoodrich Long Trail T/A, they hum a little, but they have great wear and traction. To tell you the truth, I have never had a goodyear tire that I like, and you couldn't give me a set to put on any of my trucks! ("The most expensive tires in the world have Goodyear written all over them")
I have a 2002 XLT 4x4 4dr 4.0. The only problem I have had since new was the goodyear tires. I replaced them at 20K. They wore unevenly (and yes I did rotate as directed by the manual). They had uneven wear around the edges. Both the dealership and a tire dealer told me that the Goodyears that Ford puts on at the factory are lower quality than the exact model replacements you get (from Ford or Goodyear).
I Have been hearing something that sounds like chatter... is that the timing chain? is there something I need to do? and what recall does ford have on the rear end? I have not recieved any recall notices, any information would be greatly appreciated, THank You!
Theres a new repair for the chain Rattle concern. It replaces the chain, gears and chain guides that go from the crank to the balance shaft. Its not the chain from the cams to the balance shaft this time. Its not a recall now but theres a TSB out for a "Rattle noise at 45mph". Far as the window chatter deal, remove your door trim panal to gain access to the window guide. You'll see wear marks on this guide, ford has an updated guide that takes care of this problem. I replace mine but I also lubed the guide with some anti-seize. Its worked fine for the last 3 years now.
