the other day i was driving back on the interstate doing about 70mph and i noticed a weird humming noise coming from the front. at first i thought is was my tires humming/vibration but then i realized that each time the hum came i noticed a drop in speed. very small drop thought. it sounded like it was coming from the passenger side tire area.the sound and drag lasted for about 2 seconds and then would go away and come back repeatedly. i have pro comp x terrans but they give off a constant hum. any idea's. my truck is a 2000 f-250 superduty crew cab with 4.5 lift and 315/ 75/ 16 with 85000 miles.
Not sure exactly what kind of hum it is, But mine made a nasty loud squeling noise when the spindle bearing went out. Also the same drag on the truck. Maybe something to check.
it wasnt very loud at all. it hard to descibe the sound. it kind of like when you have mud tires and you get that constant humming but this one is louder and pulses.
adam42481 - check your tires and make sure you have not broken a belt. Most of the time it sounds like a thump or a slap depending on how far the belt has seperated, but could possibly sound like a hum or a pulse like you discribe.
I wish you luck on finding out whatever it is. I always hate when you hear something new and can't put your finger on it.
I have a hum too on my f250 02.
Everytime I step on the gas I can hear the hum come from the front end.
If I let off the gas the hum goes away?
It must be some sort of bearing?
I know alot of guys from my local town that have had re-occuring problems with the Auto/manual hubs not unlocking. Or one side unlocking only and roasting the spindle bearings. I also had my 00 f-350 SRW 6 inch lift 35 inch tires smoke the wheel bearings with only 30k miles. It made no sense... No plow no excessive weight... The outer wheelbearing was gone while the inner still was lubed. Ford would not help at all beacause of the oversize tire... Ya know a One Ton truck should be able to accomidate a 35 inch tire.... And when this happened the unit bearings were still a little over 450 for each side... Ohh I miss the old Dana sixty with with serviceable bearings. And then two years later come to find out the early superduties (mine was built in june of 99) had bearing grease slingout problems..... Basicly all the grease would slide away with the centrifugal force and the bearing would run dry... Ya know.. I can understand if my truck was beat up and had mud stuck everywhere. But my truck was nearly show quality.. Ya know I am ford true and true.. but they can REALLY T me off sometimes....
My 04 4x4 did the same thing not long ago. Did all the usual checks- tires etc. but found nothing. That was 3 weeks ago and hasn't returned. I thought it was a bad tire also but can't be for sure. I have BFG's on mine. Now I am wondering if it is not mechanical.
I thought mine was the drivers side wheel bearing or something like that. But I'm like autovonride it may be mechanical .. I just can't understand or describe it. As soon as it warms up I'm putting on my new Bilsteins and will check the bearing then. Isn't there a u joint ot something else that could be causing this ? Or mechanical ? Mine is a 4x4 and I'm at a loss now.
Did anyone find or discover anything ??
I have had both front bearings go out on my 2000 F-250 and still have a light hum, hum, hum on the drivers side at 25mph to about 50mph. They even replaced the drivers side twice but, still the hum continues. Auto trans with Auto hubs. Any ideas?
