It has been in the 70's here in new orleans for the past couple of days. It is supposed to get cold tommorow, and maybe get some snow flurries. It wont stick though, the last time we got snow was 15 years ago. When it gets below 60 degrees they think it is cold down here, and when it's in the 40's they call it arctic air. I'm from chicago, and I do not miss the winter at all. When I'm offshore fishing in jan. and it's in the 70's I wonder how you folks are doing up there. When you get enough of the snow come down and visit for awhile. Hang in there, and merry christmas to you all !!!
Well just came in from shoveling the second story roof. Pretty easy now since I can stand with one foot on the snow and the other on the 1st story roof. Before that I was out snowmaching and got stuck on the side of the highway. Jump off the machine and sunked to my chest. After a few words I started the fun task of shoveling and packing down a path to get out. Good way to kill 1/2 hour. Of course now it has started to rain again. Cant make up it's mind. All well. We did have a dry (brown) christmas a few years ago. Boy was that weird. I think right now we have had 9 feet so far. Rain packs it down pretty good. I would say there is 5 feet out in the yard. Were it slide off the roof it is, well as mentioned above equal with the first story roof. I'm an ex Florida boy and the only thing I ever had to shovel was the sand out of my floor boards. Been here for 15 years and have seen it were you could walk right out your second story window onto your yard. I have also seen it were you had to shovel your roof "up" to remove snow. Most flat roofs here have snowblowers on top, eaiser to blow off the snow than shovel. Could be worse. I worked at a lodge just up the road from my house. 20 miles away and 2500 feet in elevatio gain. They sometimes get over 900 inches of snow (75 feet). I have some cool photos but have not figured out how to attach. Once I Figure that out I can show you what a bobsled highway looks like. At least you dont have to worry about going off the road.
Anyway everyone have a nice christmas.
I have a metal slope roof on my house and garage so I usually dont have to shovel those. Just have to be clear when it all comes down. I have a few flat roof building but they are small enought that it only take a few hours to shovel them all. The city keeps track of the snow load and lets everone know via radio and newspaper when it reachs certain benchmarks, ie, 75 psf, 85 psf and so forth for every 10 psf afterwards. Most new building are designed to handle 120 psf before shoveling is required. I would never let my roof get that bad. Good example is yesterday we had a 6.0 earthquake. With that much snow on your roof and a little shaker, down comes the house. Good and the bad when it comes to living here. The weather in the winter is the bad although I do like the winter time activities. I also like the mild winter temps that we have. Everytime I go down to CA to visit family I swear that I'm melting. Takes me 2 weeks to get use to it and then it time to go home and get acclimitized to our temps.
By the way...has anyone noticed that when you are ready to leave the house and you've got a stick shift in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other you can let the emergency brake off with your right foot? Kind of found that out by accident (or necessity).
JB[/QUOTE]I thought that was the way it was designed, LOL, I do that all the time, auto trans and no cup of coffee, it's just easier
Well, we got approx 16-20 or so (maybe more?) of the white stuff yesterday/last night. Was up at 5:00 blowing it. I pulled into the parking lot at work and the lot has not been plowed yet and I made the only tire marks! I guess no one else was able to make it in. Level 3 snow emergency (only emergency vehicles supposed to be on road) but some are out seeing if they can keep from getting stuck. Pulled some yeahoo out of a emergency vehicle turn around on the highway last night. He said he wanted to go the other direction and thought he could make it. Jerked him right out! Unhooked him and wished him a Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas to all FTE'rs. Be safe and help those Darwin Award contestants.....MAxim, amazing how 60 miles or so can make a HUGE difference in snowfall totals. MC & HNY
Picked up 5" here in Arkansas last night. Axis spins are fun! But the 4wd system doesn't like to spin it's wheels in that tight of a circle though. Drifting was fun!! :woot:
The more south you go the heavier it gets in snow fall. Level 3 for us. The snow finally got to coming down around 8 last night. Wind is starting to pick up this afternoon around 20mph which is not bad.
Have to go plug in the tractor I guess and clean out the drive.
woke up this morning to rain.... which then caused pudling in the streets cause it had no where to drain to... cause snow was blocking it... from the time i left home and drove for 25 minutes to work... it changed from rain to snow... now everything is freezing over with 30 mile and hour winds and still snowing....
darn winterwonderland up here

Level 3 warning, only emergency vehicles allowed on the road.....but the Mall is open? Got everyting plowed out, would have been done sooner if not waiting on cars heading to the mall.
