hi all and merry christmas,
today when attempting to change the canister filter on my 88 2wd ranger, after much knuckel scraping i got off the canister and there was no filter inside,i had a new filter but did not install it as the truck also has an in line filter about 6" in front further up the line,is that normal or am i supposed to have both, i would like to know before i bolt it all back to the in side of the rail.,the haynes says older trucks have canister type and newer trucks have
inline type! ive got both kinda?
thanks in advance, i have faith round here , LOL!
mine was missing too but i went ahead and put a new one that the auto parts store pulled up because my fuel pump the high pressure one is right after the cannister and the inline is after the HP/fuel pump seemed like a good idea to filter fuel before the pump but im sure some one on the fourm will know the exact thing ya should do good luck.
hey thanks for the reply, yeah its weird isnt it that the early trucks had the canister and the later had the inline, but yours and my had both but no filter in the early one before the hp pump, have you had any trouble since you have had two filters, and do you now just change the one close to the tank,or both or what, still havent put it all together yet was gonne see what was the opinion round here, once again thanks!
i just did mine recently ive been trouble shooting a stalling problem for awhile the filter seemed to make no difference it seemed to run the same either with or with out . make sure you put the o ring on the canister in right or it will leak i did it a few times what a pain . i had to lay it in the canister part the female side so to speak not the male some others may have insite into this i just kept tryin till it didnt leak cut a few orings but i got it down now good luck.
ok if yours made no difference with or without im gonna leave it without, because thats how it was when i found it,also theres bound
to be a screen at the fuel pick up ,plus theres the in line fuel filter just
in front of the high pressure pump,as for the o ring i stuck it in the
groove in the lower canister with a little grease ,that held it in place
then when tightening it ,i put a cloth round it and used a big pipe wrench
to tighten it up.this is kinda frustrating cause there was no fuel filter in the first place and it was not leaking, all i really did was discover that, and
give the bolts a little exercise! BUT THE QUESTIOM STILL REMAINS IF ANY ONES READING THIS,DID OR DID NOT THE 88 RANGER THAT HAS BOTH
EARLY AND LATE FUEL FILTERS HAVE A FILTER IN THE BOWL OF THE CANISTER UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT FRAME RAIL thanks!
LOL i hear ya bud id like to know that also since its such a pain to replace im not looking forward to doin it again LOL someone must know .....grease held it in there eh? cool glad it worked for ya the first time bud.
