question about manual hubs...

during the winter would it make sence to leave the hubs locked all the time? Will this dramatically decrease my gas mileage, having the hubs locked, but in 2wd unless 4wd is needed. Also, will this put unnecessary wear and tear on other parts of the drivetrain? thanks

as i've come to understand it...you will see a small decrease in gas mileage by keeping them locked. however, keeping them locked will help to keep the front diff lubricated which is most important. other than that, i've heard there's no serious problems with doing it.

As long as your transfer case isn't engaged, and you don't have a locker/limited slip in front, go ahead and do it. I do it to my '79 F150, just so if I get into trouble offroad i can put it into 4lock and not have to worry about the hubs not wanting to engage.
