O.K. So if idle mixture only affects the idle, when you turn them out, sould I be getting more or less fuel during idle. Its a holley 4180, I have got it on 86 f250 with a 460. I have a real rough idle, seems like it is starving for fuel, but only at idle. I am in Denver with elev. of 5,280 so if any one has an idea how far I should back them out as a starting point, I would appreciate it more than you know. Thank You,
James
I appreciate that, That is what I believed, But does anyone have any kind of idea where to start at when I turn them out from all the way in, I have heard 1 turn all the way to 1 3/4 turns. Thanks
I believe that there are also 2 idle mixture screws hidden in the back of the baseplate. You may try backing them out as well after drilling out the caps.
thank you for the advice guys, I took the carb off, I wasn't real sure if it was rich or starving to tell you the truth, so I backed the idle mix out 2 full turns each. It is currently 5 degrees here in Denver and it started relatively easy, but real low and boggy idle, I manually opened choke, and it sped up, but fuel started flooding it out. I got it idleing real low right now, just to warm her up. I suppose I am fgoing to have to turn those idle mix in some. But I am also leakeing fuel out of the accel. pump diaphram. I think one of the screws is stripped. Otherwise I am pleased that it is on there, after 2 days. But i need to get this running good quick, cause it is for sale. Noone is going to give me what I want running as is. I got an insult offer of 1000.00 last night as is. Screw that, I am asking 2500.00 ,Everything is new in the damn thing. Just need adjusting. Any quick surefire ways to getting this fine tuned good enough to sell close to what I am asking?
Everything needs adjusted on carb right now. What order....such things as that, and how to fix that accel. pump?
Thany You

If it doesn't have the factory air cleaner on it, then when it is cold, it will ice internally in the carb causing it to run too rich until it warms up. So if the hot air part of the stock air cleaner isn't working or missing, after a couple of minutes of running, it will start flooding itseld out because the moisture in the air bleeds freezes and cuts off air to the idle circuit.
