Has anyone ever cleaned and serviced their injectors before? I have been whittling my way down to the root of my problem, and I am about to pull my intake manifold off in order to pull and check the injectors, and I was wondering if there is any way for me to actually clean and/or test the injectors manually. I have a 1987 B II 2.9 2WD. Any and all help/advice is greatly appreciated.
There is a tool called a noid light that can tell if there is an electric impulse to the injector. I use a mechanics stethiscope to tell if the injectors are cycling. The will make a clicking noise.
Good deal! So I don't have to pull off the intake to reach the fuel rail? I am trying to avoid buying any more tools than I have to, but if it comes down to it I will. But back to the original question, how do you clean dirty injectors? I would really like to know because since I've used Sea Foam, it seems as if something has actually dislodged in the line somewhere and lodged itself in one or more of my injectors. Thanks again.
The best way to clean them is to let a pro do it, they will also flow test them which is very important. One of the FTE moderators, Rockledge, just had them done on his Ranger, I think it took about 4-5 days including shipping time.
Thanks for the info Ken. If one or more are bad I will leave it to the professionals. I guess what I am trying to get at is this: What is the best way I (mechanically inclined, moderate experience) can determine if and/or which injector(s) is/are bad? My truck has been on the fritz for about 2 weeks now and I am losing my patience with it. I have yet to have any major problem with my baby and I would like to get it up and at 'em ASAP. Thanks again guys!
P.S. Test them without having to buy a noid light and without using a mechanics stethescope as my exhaust manifold has a slight leak, causing it to be a bit loud.
I replace all 6 of my injectors it not hard to do you have to be carefull when you pull the wire connector from the injector, they will brake when you replace injector besure to put OIL on the O rings. Youcan test them with an ohm meter
