I have been having problems rotating my tow mirrors. They either don't move at all or in a different direction than the switch. I live close to the Gulf so corrosion is always a problem here. How do the interior covers come off the door, so I can try and lubricate the cables. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
well first there is no cables it is electric. i wonder if the problem is in the switch is there any direction it does work (ex. the mirrors only move left and down) the switch would be the culprit
the other thought is the mirror all the way to the limit? all the way left or right?if you want to look at the switch plate at the front edge ( that is the edge towards the front of the truck) you pry up on the retaining clip and lift the control plate out the large black plate for window and door locks
They do rotate sometimes, but like you indicated it is usually only one or two directions. Do the mirrors snap out? I had the drivers side replaced by the dealer last year when a passing vehicle knocked the mirror off, and it even wasn't extended.
first did you understand how to pry up the controle panel on the driver's door? it seemed a bit confusing reading what i sent (no post editing) the mirrors i believe are glued in with a special glue they use on mirrors the easy way is to call a glass store in your area and ask but if the mirrors move the same way all the time it is the switch in the door
i find it is very easy to hit the mirrors in tight spaces (drive throughs) it is the nature of the beast for example i was driving in manhatten and i hit a bus's mirror it was that or the car next to me. if it is tight all ways fold your mirror in
I am concluding, like you said, that it is probably the switch. Since it did have similar problems last year last year after replacing the drivers side mirror.
Merry Christmas to all, and Happy Holidays, to be correct in some circles.
