I have a 300 i6 and on cold morning 45 or lower my truck takes forever to warm-up. The other day it was real cold and i had my brother go out and crank it about 5-7 min before I left and it still wasn't warm. It finally got warm after driving for about 5-7 min. but by this time i am almost to work. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get it to hurry-up and warm-up so i don't freeze when it really gets cold in a couple weeks.
brand new thermostat. maybe 4-5 months old. failsafe
I have heard that the 300 i6 is just a cool running engine, if that is so could it be that added to the lower temperature outside could cause it to have a slow warm-up. And if that being the case has anyone ever heard of putting cardboard or some other insulating material infront of the grill, to enclose engine compartment and allow engine to keep more heat and not be cooled of by incoming cold air.

Although it doesn't happen very often, even a t-stat can fail in a couple of months and by your own post you say it's a failsafe which is designed to fail in the open position. IMO I'd check it out. It only takes a couple of minutes and the worst it could cost you is a t-stat housing gasket if the t-stat is ok. Carl
my 1985 inline six takes forever to warm up also. It doesn't want to idle, and runs way rich for the first 6-10 minutes, but comes out of it after that and runs fine. i have also considered covering the grill with something also.
