another oil question (sorry)
man i gotta tell you guys this diesel is starting to be a pain in the @#$, but that is a different story. anyways i want to change the oil in my truck to a lighter weight for the winter, can anyone tell me if this oil will work, the guys at the esso bulk plant says it will, but when i got it home it seems to not have the right ratings. heres what i got- esso 5w30 XD-R, on the jug it has these ratings, says its a premium heavy duty oil reccomended for diesel and gas engines, recommended for applications requiring API CF, CD/SL, SH and SG, and then also says recommended for applications requiring ALLISON C4, CATERPILLAR T0-2 and VICKERS 35VQ25. please help me out, i was thinking of switching to syn, but i am decided not to, so is this the right oil for my 02 PSD or not.

are you sure it is xd-r and not xd-3? I can't find any info on xd-r but the xd-3 comes up. From the looks of it, the xd-3 would be good, but I don't see anything saying it comes in 5w-30. I see 15-40, 10-30, 0-30, and 0-40, but nothing about 5-30
If it says it is good for diesel I probably would say it is ok, but I would say to use a 10w-30 not the 5w-30.

opps sorry, it is XD-3, dont ask where i got the R from.yeah i am not sure i hope it is ok to use, i was just wondering cause in my ford supplement book, it says to use CG-4/CH-4 rating and this didnt say it on the jug. i might take it back to the bulk plant, but before i do i just want to here what you guys think!!

slc10844- that link you gave me doesnt seem to be working for me, could you check and see if you got the link right for me and i will try it again. but as far as you can see, do you think this oil will work??

hey there slc10844, i checked out the link, i think they are talking about the synthetic xd-3 0-30 where i had the dino xd-3 5-30. i think the dino oil i got has a rating for diesel, but not a high enough rating for the psd. but i know for a fact the xd-3 0-30 is rated right, maybe it was the 0-40, i cant remeber but i know it was ok.
