I HAVE A 1997 EXPLORER WITH THE 5R55E TRANSMISSIN.i HAD A NEW ENGINE FITTED A FEW MONTHS AGO AND EVER SINCE IT WAS PUT IN MY OVERDRIVE LIGHT HAS STARTED FLASHING,ALTHOUGH SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T.ANYWAY WHEN IT FLASHES THE TRUCK SHIFTS VERY BAD.I TOOK IT TO FORD WHO HAVE NOW HAD IT FOR 6 WEEKS.THEY HAVE NOW TOLD ME THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION TORQUE LOCK UP SOLENOID.WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IS WHERE EXACTLY THIS IS AND HOW EASY IS IT TO FIT A REPLACEMENT.FORD DO NOT WANT TO TOUCH IT,SO IM ON MY OWN PLEASE HELP...........
Mossy, welcome from across the pond. Let me suggest you not post in all caps; it is hard for us in the Colonies to read.
First, let me say that the Ford dealer should have run the codes, found the trouble, and replaced the solenoid. I can't imagine them not being able to fix it. The TCC solenoid (torque converter lockup control) is located on a solenoid rail attached to the valve body of the transmission. It's accessed by simply dropping the pan.
However, it's probably not a bad solenoid, since Ford couldn't fix it. What model engine was put in it? You may have a bad electrical connection to the TCC, that the dealer couldn't trace. Or maybe the PCM (powertrain control module) isn't compatible with the new engine? Sorry I can't be specific, but give us more information and maybe someone can help.......
