Disconnecting Battery

I was reading the instructions for changing the tranny fluid and it said to disconnect the negative battery cable. I don't really see the need, but have always been one to follow instructions. My question is which battery do I disconnect, or both?

Thanks

Frank

this is a cya (cover your a--) that is put in there for liability reasons. your common sense should come into play here. just like ladders...why do they have to put labels on them saying...check for overhead obstructions and electrical lines and do not step on the top 2 steps........da!!!!!!! for some lawyer to say "well, you did not tell me to check for electrical lines" while you wife and her new husband are enjoying the insurance money !
