Last night was the coldest night that my psd was out in,it was plugged in and started fine.Trying not wake everyone in the house up at 5am I coasted out of my driveway and down the street. Then I noticed, nothing in the dash cluster is working, red battery symbol is on,"off" was flashing on the shifter,ABS light, and no throttle...Any how Isat on the side of the road for about 15 mins. and then stuff started to work. The throttle started to work so I could get up the hill and as I drove to work everything came back on???Has this happened to you? what causes this? can I do anything to keep it from happening again???
Add throttle to get the alternator putting out enough juice to power everything. It probably took 15 minutes for the idle speed to be high enough, or the alternator to get spinning enough, to make more power than the battery was putting out and the voltage regulator to let it online. Thus the battery light. My lights are dimmer when I just start the truck until the alternator puts out more power to charge the battery and give full electrical power. And don't worry about the noise, nothing like the rolling sound of a diesel to put others to sleep or if need be back to sleep! They'll get used to it!

That's your glow plug relay staying on for two minutes after you start the truck. Those puppies take a lot of juice!
Sounds like the original poster should think about getting some new batteries. I think they're on their last legs, and cold weather always sends last-legs battery over the line from barely functional to non-functional.
