C-6 shifting question.

in the last few days i've noticed that my truck seems to be shifting quick.. i cant say quicker than normal because i've not been in the truck that long.
what we have is: 1979 F-250 SuperCab. 460 with C-6 trans. edelbrock carb, the "kickdown" lever is not connected..

when i leave from a dead stop, i am in 3rd by the time i get to 35mph give or take a mph one way or the other.. this seems like it's hitting 3rd pretty fast to me. perhaps i'm wrong. i have another "classic" with a c-6 but its been awhile since it was running and i cant exactly recall how it shifted.. but i dont think it got to 3rd that fast.. that truck is a 79 F-350 with 351M/c-6. stock motorcraft 2bbl carb... i just cant recall how quickly it reached the #3...
back to the f-250.. this is me leaving the dead stop at a normal pace.. not standing on the long skinny pedal or anything...just a standard "i'm trying not to use all my gas at once" take off.. i dont know if it matters, but the rearend gears are 3.54. this generally wouldnt bother me as much but it seems like when i get to about 65mph the truck doesnt like to go faster..it will i'm sure, but i havent wanted to push it.. i dont know the rpm's at that point since i have no tach yet.. but it just sounds like its winding out pretty good..

any help, ideas, or suggestions would be much appreciated..
thanks,
Wade

ok at 75 with that configuration is gonna be 3100 with 30" tall tires. Now about the shifting characteristics. My 1978 F-250 Ranger 351M, C6, 4.10 will shift into second and about 5 mph and 3rd about 15 if i'm driving really slow on the ranch. When i'm driving how you explain it'll shift about 15 from 1st to second and about 30 when going from 2nd to 3rd. You can adjust this if you would like. Makes the shifts firmer and takes longer to reach your shift point. If I get into mine she'll shift about 30 and thats about 4500rpm. then from second to 3rd it'll shift about 50 at 4500 then third at 50 i'm running 2500 cause of my ratio. at 75 with my setup i run about 3600. I hope this gives you some idea how these shift. o yeah i'm completely stock til next week. Motorcraft 2150 2-BBL. Hope this helps.

it does help..this truck is still new to me so i am trying to figure the hows and whys of how everything is set up.. and then i can decide if i want to go another route with things...
i didnt just hop up and buy this one, i spent many months looking for just the right truck for me to buy and put some money into.. when i get done i want to have something. i dont want to have a truck that i spent alot of money on and that is why i am keeping it.. (like my f-350)

thanks again for the help..i was mainly concerned that this shifting was not "normal" and that perhaps something was wrong with the trans..

gotta get.. there is a large roast calling me and i dont want to let my appetite down.

merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas to you too Redneck'n. sorry it's day late but hey the thought is still there.
I forgot to mention if i put my truck in 4LO it takes off in 2nd gear not 1st. if you want first you gotta select it from the column. Forgot to tell you just in case yours is a 4x. i don't think yours is becuase you didn't say but just in case.

not 4x4 here...
i did have this happen...if i get on it (not really hard) at take off, it will shift into 3rd around 45-50mph..
also, when i am on interstate at 60-65mph, if i stand up on the long skinny pedal, it will take off real quick and proper.. i didnt push it past 85 though.. it just acts like 70 is all it wants.. unless you stand up on it..i still have some kinks to work out and i'm sure that has something to do with all of it.. i know i am leaking some fluid from my c-6. i know i need new shocks too.. i am sure that is where most of my vibration is coming from.. plus the tires are not the same brand and tread wear.. there are the same size though..
as soon as i can sell my car, i am going to have the c-6 serviced and tended to if need be.. and have an air locker put in the rear end.. i want full traction sometimes...

the main reason i am going to have my trans shop take a peak at the trans is because when i put it (manually) in 1st, it has a funny noise that i dont like...drives and acts right.. but i dont like odd noises coming from a truck that i dont know yet...
anyway, thanks again.

hopefully your modulator on the tranny is adjustable. Pull the vaccuum line off of it and use a small screwdriver to adjust.
