CD Player for 99 Explorer w/ 6 disk changer
I have a 99 Explorer Limited and it currently has a stock stereo in it with a 6 disk cd changer but the lights went out in the stereo I was told that it would be cheeper to buy aftermarket instead of going with a new Ford stereo. So here is my question I am a Kenwood fan and I was wondering if there is a reciever that will hook up to the current disk changer and if the controlls on the steering wheel can still be used somehow. Any input appreciated!

Hey,
It is possible to link the steering wheel controlls to the unit itself. But for that you have to make sure, that your unit supports that option. For myself, I never tried to do that. I think it is kinda complicated and you probably would have to have it done. If you still want to us the controlls on the steering wheel, you should go for the original stuff. Way more expensive, but the easiest way to do it. You can get cheap used radios of ebay. It looks like you only nees the headunit itself anyways. So make sure you get the same one, take the old one out and replace it. Then also your cd changer should work. I also have problems with MY CD change, only because the lense is out of its adjustment. A new changer would cost me about 400 $ !!! Yes that's the info I got from Ford!! INSANE!! So I got a dvd system now and took the changer out. But the same changer could be found on ebay for 140$. So don't get fooled by the expesnsive for prices!
