Rear Lift Window Problems

I have a 2002 Explorer XLT. I noticed yesterday that the plastic strip on the rear window lift gate had about 3 long cracks in it running right through the Ford emblem below the glass. The truck only has 45,000 miles on it. It was rather cold when it cracked and am afraid the dealer won't do anything for me. Has anyone had any problems similar to this?

I had the same thing happen on my '02 XLT (only 1 crack tho), and had it fixed under warranty. Unfortunately, the new trim piece comes unpainted so it ain't gonna be cheap to replace out-of-warranty.

Thank you for the information, did you by chance see how much it would have costed if your vehicle would not have been under warranty?

Welcome to the club! Mine got one of these cracks about 3 weeks ago. It's got to be a defect in the part, as it contracts and expands wildly with the recent temperature changes... I've had this truck for 3 years, and it just now decided to do this. When I get a chance, I'm going to the dealer and raising hell, as it seems this is a widespread issue.

I am going to the dealer next week to raise hell also. I work for a company that supplies components to Ford and this is definitely a quality defect. I'll let you know how it turns out.
