My 93' is in need of a new clutch, ( it's really weak), I went to check prices on new units and they were asking whether it's a 10" or an 11" disk.
My question is, how can I find out which it is? My 70' was an 11" and I've got two of those disks in my shop,
BUT; I'm also thinking of upgrading to a Centerforce dual friction system, i was looking on Ebay and found a couple units for the late 80's early 90's Fox Bodied Mustang.
It's useing a 10" disk with a 1 and 1/16th 10 spline input shaft. It's for the same 5.0 that is in my pickup, so I was wondering if it'd fit mine.
Put an 11" clutch in and IMO i wouldn't waste my money on a centerforce. A good quality clutch like LUK is perectly fine. When upgrading to the 11" you need to get different pressure plate bolts and you can get these from your local ford dealer. Also while your in there replace the concentric slave cylinder and replace the pilot bearing.
You replace it with another concentric slave. These are notorious for leaking right after you do a clutch swap and don't replace it. Unfortunatly these transmissions have internal slave cylinders, also called a concentric slave, and they aren't like the old style external where you can replace one in 20 mins, these you have to remove the whole transmission, thus, you replace it when the tranny is out. LUK is a company that sells high quality clutches, they sell kits that come with clutch pressure plate and slave, not sure if they come with a pilot bearing. As for the bolts, I think they are a different size.
Thanks for all the help, I looked into the clutches (it works well when you type LUK Clutches into Yahoo). Would I be better off going with the HD clutch (and they include the P.B.) or with the regular duty clutch???
Just put a LUK clutch kit in my 95 300i6. Decided to go with the med. duty and when I tore it down I found out that LUK was original equipment. The numbers stamped in the pressure plate were an exact match to the new one. LUK's sets come with Disk, Pressure Plate, Concentric Slave/Release Bearing, Pilot Bearing, new bolts and alignment tool. Really reasonably priced too. Got mine thru Dial-A-Clutch.com. My 2 cents. Carl
