I'm replacing the fuel pump on my 97 PSD. I've researched how to do it on this forum and in my manual. I saw someone mention to use the blue Aeroquip racing 3/8" fuel hose when replacing the fuel hoses. The shortest amount of hose I can buy in my area is 15 ft for $75.00 . I do not want to pay $75.00 for fuel hose, when I only need a foot or so. I called Ford to see if they sold the fuel hose in lengths for my 97 and he said they do not.
My question is, will regular black 3/8 fuel hose work, or should I use fuel injection hose?
You must use the Aeroquip or equivalent high-temperature hose!! Down there in The Valley Of Doom next to the turbo, things get mighty hot, and the last thing you want is fuel spraying everywhere and lighting off when hoses melt in the heat. (Diesel is nowhere near as volatile as gasoline, but it's still a bad idea to let it spray everywhere.)
My local racing shop was happy to sell me two feet of the stuff. Can you find a different, more customer-friendly shop? If you have no other way to buy the bulk stuff, it sounds like you'd be better off just buying the overpriced couple-of-inch-long pieces from the dealer.
i have been running fuel injection hose on mine for 3 years without any ill effects. the aero quip hose would be better, but like you say it is hard to get in short lengths.
