I just bought a new 98 4X4. Right now I'm running P235/70R16 104S Firestone Wilderness AT tires. I am assuming these are factory. My question is, what is the largest tire I can use, without doing any major lifting? Any suggestions on type of tires also would be appreciated.
I recently installed Cooper STT 265/75 16's on a 98 4x4 ext. cab. They are 32's. They were close but didn't hit. We screwed the bolt on the torsion bar to raise the front, just to be sure it didn't rub when i hit a bump. I'm very happy with the way it looks. Drives a little rougher though.
I have a 2000 4x4 Ranger with factory 245x75x16.
I checked into the tire sizes that were allowed without doing any modifications on the suspension.
It said that 31" tires can be used without doing mods to the truck. I plan on putting 33x12.5x15 in the future, which will require a 4" suspension lift.35" will require the 4" suspension lift plus a 2-3" body lift. This information is just in case you decide to go to the 33 or 35 tires.
Hope this helps and happy trucking!
was watching a section on TRUCKS! televeision show about lifting. They specifically said that turning the bolt on the torque tube alone is the wrong way to lift the front suspension. You need to replace springs, shocks, tie-rods, etc, with longer pieces; hence, why a lot of people don't bother with the suspension lift and do a body lift instead. This may explain the rougher ride you have now.
i have a 99 ranger xl 2wd (2.5 4cyl) and am running BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A ko 235/75/15 on the back and perrili p3000 225/75/15 on the front (i had 2 factory tires vandalized and needed cheap replacements)
now being a 2wd, with the shoulderlock technology on the bfg tires (that flare that comes at the top of the tire) i cant use those on the front if i want to be able to steer offroad (which i do take it occasionaly)
