I have been pricing the banks power upgrade (air, headers and exhaust) for around 1600 dollars. Would be buying for example: K&N air, gibson headers and gibson exdhaust accopmlish the same gains as banks claims. I can find many combinations of the above three besides Banks for around 1200 dollars. Is Banks really worth it compared to the other high performance products? Thanks.
From my experience, Banks makes very good products but they are extremely overpriced. I'm positive that you can buy comperable quality products elsewhere for substantially less money.
I have the Banks power pack on my V10. I paid $1530 for the kit without the ottomind chip. I will tell you that the Banks kit is very well thaught out. Everything fits perfectly...the headers were perfect and the downpipes already had the bungs for the O2 sensors. The leadpipes to the cat and new muffler were perfect. The new tailpipe is perfect. I installed the kit over a weekend with help. The direction in the kit were precise and exact. All the heatshields required like starter and both sway bar links are included. Plus there are wrap shilds for brakelines and tranny lines. Also entension for O2 sensors......plus other things that escapes me at the time......My point is that the Banks kits comes with everything you need. It has been engineered so nothing gets forgotten. The kit is complete with no running around finding parts.
Oh one other thing I just remembered, the K&N filter comes with the kit. You get a new front element of the split filter housing with a noticable larger intake hole. By getting this it keeps it a cold ait intake. Drawing the air from out side the engine bay. Does the FIPK from K&N mount the element in stock location with out the housing? I am not sure.
Hey Boxcar--Read your reply regarding the Banks Power system for the V10. Have you noticed an increase in power? What about gas milage? And how does it sound? I have been kicking around the idea about their system for my truck for a while and was interested in how things have turned out for you. Thx
I have noticed a power increase.....not huge though.....the mpg is where the gains are.....I have averaged 1.5 to 2 mpg. Not oustanding but when I got 11mpg and I now get 12.5 to 13........well that's almost 20% increase. Now the sound thing is a beast all on its own......I like it......but I did replace the Banks dynaflow muffler that came with the kit.....that muffler is a straight through design and I sounded like crap....no way I could have lived with it......cant even describe how bad it sounded.....so what I did was buy a FM 70 and a 3" to 3.5" venture reducer to go from the FM 70 (3" offset in and out) to get the the 3.5" banks tailpipe......a chambered muffler sounds sooooooooooooooo mush better. Now it sounds nothing like a V8. But it hase a very aggressive tone at idle.....and at higher rpm's (2500 and above) it sounds great.....very powerful sounding.....a real head turner......sounds like nothing else on the road. At that 1800 to 2300 rpm normal accelleration sped it does have a V6 sound to it....not exactly but the tones a very similar....at highway and city street cruising speeds it sounds really good.......the best way my dad described it to me was it sounds like a boat motor.....but in a good way...Hope this helps......I am sorry I have no way to record a sound clip....
cpdo6, I have also invested in the banks headers , nothing but good things to say.
The quality and fit was perfect, I know you pay through the nose for the stuff, (especially up here in canada, exchange rate, courier charges, taxes, blah, blah, blah,) but worth every penny if you like nice products...
regards Domenico.....
Thanks guys--I think everybody knows Banks makes a good product, but when it comes to spending that kind of money, it helps to hear from some people that have used the kit. I have always felt that you get what you pay for and I don't mind spending the money when I can get a couple of opinions. I guess that's the next best thing when the kit isn't stocked locally for the touchy feely thing. Thx again.
I agree....that terrible Y-pipe is a joke.....like I stated earier my local ford dealer installs all the banks kits on all the trucks.....F-150's and all super duties gas and diesel.......they have to issues with using Banks' chip in the pcm either.......or if you bring them a superchip or diablo chip they will install that......a very good service department......they wont bust your stones for getting the truck to run more efficiently and above all to have some fun with it.......they are very good...
