I have a 91 F350 Crew Cab Diesel and I want to tow a horse trailer or a boat behind my 11 1/2 foot cab-over camper. Both Torklift's Super Hitch and Reece's Titan are made for campers up to 12 feet. The Super Hitch has a 1,000/10,000 weight distribution rating with both it's 41" and 48" extensions and I think the Reece hitch has a similar rating. I pulled a 4 horse trailer behind my F250 with a 9 foot camper for a lot of years. I've added air bags, trailer mirrors, and the trailer has electric brakes. Does anyone have any experience and suggestions for pulling heavier trailers behind the big campers using either of these hitches or something similar?
I think sway bars (front and rear) are a must if your truck doesn't already have them.
I tow a car hauler trailer (2000 lbs + 2500lb car) behind my 10 1/2" camper.
I tried it once before adding the sway bars on a short trip and it was not fun. Not too bad now though, although I keep the speed down to 55-60 MPH.
Oh, long safety chains zip-tied to the hitch extension to keep them off the ground.
Wow... I would shoot someone who pulled up at my barn with a 4h behind a camper behind a pickup. I want the horses close to my truck where they are safest and most stable. I couldn't imagine towing a horse trailer with another trailer.
Grafekie, that not quite what I intended. The question was intended to be asked about 1 camper loaded in the pickup box with 1 bumper pull horse trailer in tow. I have pulled both a car dolly with a mid size sedan behind a 34' fifth wheel and I've pulled a 17' ski boat behind the same 5th wheel. Handling was excellent for both configerations but I had to back off the throttle on the long passes and top out the climbs in 2cnd gear.
Dave, thanks for the comments. I'll put them to good use.
That's ok. It painted an interesting picture. I have thought about putting a trailer frame under my wood fired hot tob and taking it with me towed behind the horse trailer for a relaxing evening soak after spending the day in the saddle. Just thought about it, mind ya!
