Anyone know the lift, duration, etc.. for a stock cam in a 82 F100. Im back to work and I really want to rebuild the engine in my truck in the spring. Im looking at Comp Cams either 260H or 268H. Im not sure yet which one I want to use. For a rebuild with these parts would $2000 sound about right?
Here's a list of parts I want to use or do to it:
1. Offenhauser Dual Plane Intake
2. EFI manifolds
3. Holley 390cfm carb
4. Mild port & polish on head
5. Comp Cams 260H/268H cam
I'd like 200 Hp and 320 ft.lbs of torque at the flywheel.
The stock cam is 0.250 lobe lift, the adv. duration is around 255 and the duration @ 0.050 is around 195.
Either of the cams you listed would be great. If you are more concerned with low end I'd go with the 260, if you are willing to sacrifice a little low end to gain more top end and a few hundred extra rpm go with the 268.
FWIW, there are a few that feel the isky supercam 256 or 262 would make a good torque/performance cam.
If you noticed Col Flashmans build, hes supposedly made 300hp/400tq with an off the shelf mellings cam...thats impressive IMO, after looking at the hp and tq peak though, its a pretty fair assumption that the heads were ported very well.
I followed the build up of Col Flashmans 300, a very nice one it is. Im just looking for a mild 300. Right now my 82 F100 has 313,000+ miles and you can hear all the ticks and other noises it makes. Plus it lacks some low end when you first let the clutch out. Thanks for the info guys.
