dana 60 help needed!
Also, I've done almost all the work on my truck including R&R for engines, trannies, driveshafts, body swap etc. But, I've heard that installing gears is a bit tricky. Any gurus here who can walk me through a Dana 60 gear change? If I can get gears for $100 or so and install them myself, I can quickly make it up in gas savings! The Detroit locker was professionally installed less than 5000 miles back.
I'm hoping to get the highway engine rpm down without going to an expensive OD setup. I think my stroked 428 is making enough torque to make up for some 3.54:1 gears. This 3400rpm highway crusing is getting old and expensive. FYI, I run 30" tires.
See more about my rig here: http://www.thedreyerfamily.com/69f25.../67project.htm
Any help appreciated.

Gear changes on Dana axles are very tricky as they have to be shimmed just right. You'll need an inch/pound torque wrench and a dial indicator to get it right. If you screw it up you'll eat your ring gear up and get to start all over . . . sucks.
I think the Haynes manual covers how to do it otherwise you can buy a Dana manual off ebay for $15 that goes into detail. Randy's R&P has a helpful article on it too. Maybe you can review it and see if this is something you think you'll be up for or not. http://www.ring-pinion.com/downloads/yukoninstman.pdfHave you ever thought about just going to a 32 or 33" tire on that truck? Or will they just not fit?
