4R70W or E40D?

My question is which is the best transmission, the 4R70W Automatic or the E40D Auto? Which is the most heavy duty, ie, the best for towing a travel trailer?

I believe the E4OD is the larger, more HD transmission. Both have been used in Ford trucks, so I don't think either will have any physical issues while towing. As always, heat is the major enemy... make sure the fluid has adequate cooling.

If it is an older truck make sure the E4OD has the upgrades, if you are going to tow. I also put a shift kit in mine after I lost the trans. Heat and slippage were the issues.

Any auto tranny needs to have the latest upgrades. The 4R70W needs to have the most recent valve body upgrade, I believe it's already in every one after '97. Heat and slippage are the worst enemy, especially for a tranny that's not serviced or doesn't have a cooler to get rid of the heat.
