What's it gonna take ( if at all possible ) to get a 205 married transfer case on the back of an 89 E40D ? 2 wheel drive diesel transmission? The 205 is on a C6 right now but I would like to have the overdrive. When I have the necessary parts I will take it to the transmission shop to be rebuilt.
If the E4OD is anything like a C6, then I would think it's a matter of changing the tailshaft, and adding a spacer to mount the 205 to.
If your interested, I'll have an E4OD for sale in a month or so that is currently in an F250 4x4, and from what I have been told, the 205 will bolt right up, but I have not verified that.
First you need a E4OD 4x4 output housing and output shaft installed on to your 2wd version. Secondly, the output shaft housing must be notched as it partially will sit in front of one of the shift rails. Lastly, from what i've read it's a tight fit with a 205 and a E4OD diveshaft wise. The pan on that tranny is very wide and a small diameter driveshaft must be used or it will smash into the pan. Personally, if i was in this situation, i would use a divorced mount transfercase. Reason being, no need to mess with your tranny, you wont need to notch the output housing, you can push the tcase over just a little bit for extra clearance of the e4OD tranny pan. All you would need to do is make up a crossmember for it. And ofcourse new driveshafts.

Thanks guys. That's about what I figgered. It has a divorced 203 in it now so I guess I will use that.I could use the 203 parts on the 205 for a doubler right? Now I guess I need a kit for that. This is a project so I got time.I have the 79 and the 76 F-250 4x4s and an 83 2 wheel F 250. I'm gonna take the best of all of them. I'll try it without the OD first. It will be easy to upgrade with the divorced setup. Moe
He hasn't posted in almost nine years. Don't hold your breath waiting for a reply.
To change a 4x2 E4OD to a 4x4 all you have to do is take EVERYTHING out of the trans. Install the 4x4 output shaft and build it back up. Attach a 4x4 extension housing to the rear of the trans and it's ready to mate to the transfer case.

not what was looking for. I want to put a doubler 203/205 behind a e4od. I’ve seen little info about maybe front drive shaft hitting the pan or something. Wanted to see if he went through with it and what happened
