Question Starting trouble

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum and hope to be able to get lots of info from folks.

My problem is I just bought a 71 F-100 it has a 71 mustang 302 with 2bbl carb and headers other then that its a stock motor. The truck ran fine the first day I had it. The next day I started it fine after about 5 minutes it began to stutter and died. I tried to restart and it ran real ruff and died. I put another carb off my 65 mustang that I know works on and no change. I changed out the coil and rotor in the distributor along with the engine ground wire to the firwall. no change. I left it sitting for about and hour and it started up and ran fine for a couple minutes then you guessed it ... died. This morning I went back out and started it ran fine for a couple minutes then died and now it will not start at all. the motor turns over but doesn't start. Any ideas would be great. I also changed out the vacuum advance no change.

Thanks

Well, I guess you've eliminated the carb as the culprit. I would suspect the fuel pump or a fuel filter. I would check and see if it's getting gas. Disconnect the gas line at the carb and turn it over to see if gas if getting to the carb (be careful). If you have gas there, then I would move onto something electrical. Check the point gap/dwell, fire from the coil and so on. Good luck and let us know.

It would seem the problem was the condenser. Changed it fired right up!

Its always the small things.
