I have an 02 Escape with abour 50K on it. The ABS was comming on for no reason. The roads were dry and clear. It was time to replace the front rotors and I thought they might be grabbbing. Finished that with no problems. While I was seating the pads the ABS light came on which disables the system. The brakes feel fine without the ABS. Problem now is when I start the ABS light is off. Just the slightest touch on the brakes activates the ABS and at slow speed the braking distance is greatly increased and I can feel the ABS system working. When I get over 35 mph the ABS light comes back on and the system is disabled. I checked all four corners and the sensors and rings look OK. I adjusated the rear brakes and topped up the fluid. If I have to take it into Ford I know it going to cost for something simple. HELP!!

Good luck with your problems. Enjoy FTE
When you say that you checked the rings did you inspect them really closely for cracks and chipped teeth? All it takes is either of those to give the problem you have.
I can't find specs for the sensors but if you take an ohm meter and check all the sensors resistance they should all be the same I think. If they aren't all the same then at least the 2 fronts and 2 rears should be the same.
it sounds like you are having a false abs activation. this is typically caused by a bad abs sensor or corroded conector.the dealer should be able to pinpoint this quite quickly.if the abs light has been on it probably has stored a code.
Also have the dealer check to see if the b fluid is at the right level. My wife's '02 had the same symptom a while back and adding fluid solved the ABS Light issue.
