Power door lock and mirrors problems
First off, a big thanks to FTE for this site. It's helped me fix many problems with my vehicles simply by searching for similar issues or checking the Technical Issues links. I've searched the site for these two problems and came up empty.
Specs: 2000 Ranger, 4.0L, 4X4 XLT, extended cab.
The passenger side power door lock no longer pops the lock up. It will pop it back down. I can hear noises in the door that sound like the proper parts are
working and the lock itself will move ever so slightly but will not unlock. This started about 4 mos. ago with it being difficult and gradually getting to this point.
Both power side mirrors are not working properly. Only certain switch positions make them move. Other positions do nothing. For instance, on the driver side the mirror can only be moved inward and down. It won't go up or out. The passenger side is similar. These started back in the summer during the hurricanes here in Florida so i wonder if things got blown into mirror housing. I've tried cleaning out stuff but there's realling nothing there.
As always, thanks in advance for any advise!

Regarding the lock button, if it's just a button issue, then look for a problem with the rod that connects it to the latch mechanism.
If the door also fails to unlock when the button malfunctions, then it's probably a bad actuator, or a problem with the actuator circuit.
By removing the door panel, you will also gain access to the door switch for the mirror, as well as electrical connector (once the speaker is removed). Try cleaning the pins/connectors with electrical contact cleaner. The yellow wire is the only one common to both mirrors, so that might be a clue.
Hope this helps.
Thanks again for your pictorial on removing the door panel. It was much easier than I anticipated. Getting it back on proved to be more difficult cuz I forgot to lower the window first so I couldn't line up the lock stem correctly. But it worked out. At any rate, everything looked fine in there. All the wires were connected properly in the plug bundles and traced back to the actuator in the door. I felt along the entire path of the lock stem and didn't find anything binding or otherwise wrong. Using either the door handle button or the key fob button the actuator will drop the stem but not lift it. When raising the lock the actuator pops and the arm moves a tiny bit but won't go up. Also, when dropping the stem it's not as crisp and immediate as the driver's side lock. So, I'm assuming that it's a problem with the actuator. I can see how to remove it but is it easy to put on a new one? I can't see how to reconnect the stem arm or the piece that works with the outside keylock. Any advice there? If it's too difficult I'll just take it to a shop with the door panel removed and a new actuator so i can save a few bucks with them.
I couldn't find anything wrong with the mirror wiring. One thing I did note is that neither side mirror will move to the right. They both move up, down and to the left, but not to the right. I'm thinking that's a switch issue. I checked it out and nothing looked out of the ordinary. That shud be a quick and cheap fix tho.
Any further help with the passenger door lock problem would be much appreciated.
